Ὁ δὲ προηγούμενος τῶν ποδῶν τῶν Δίδυμων ἀστὴρ προσαγορεύεται Πρόπους.

‘The leading star of the feet of Gemini is called Propus.’

Προηγεῖται μὲν γὰρ ἐν αὐτῷ ὁ ἐχόμενος τοῦ λάμπρου ὡς πρὸς δύσιν ἐπέχων τοῦ σκορπίου τῆς αʹ μο τὸ ἥμισυ.

‘In it, the (star) next to the bright one towards the west (i.e. β Coronae Borealis) leads, occupying the half of the 1st deg of Scorpio.’

Ἐλέγχει δὲ τὴν δόξαν ψευδῆ ὑπάρχουσαν μάλιστα πάντων ἡ περὶ τοὺς πέντε πλανήτας ἀστέρας κίνησις· ἐκεῖνοι γὰρ ὁτὲ μὲν ὑπολείπονται τῶν ἀπλανῶν ἀστέρων, ὁτὲ δὲ προηγοῦνται, ὁτὲ δὲ κατὰ τοὺς αὐτοὺς ἀστέρας μένουσιν, οἳ δὴ καὶ καλοῦνται στηριγμοί.

‘But the movement concerning the five wandering stars proves the opinion to be the most false of all there are: for these are sometimes left behind the fixed stars, but sometimes they lead, and sometimes they stay near the same stars, (events) which are also called “stations”.’

Τὰ δὲ κατηστεριγμένα ζῴδια οὔτε ἴσα ἐστὶ κατὰ τὸ μέγεθος οὔτε ἐξ ἴσων ἀστέρων συνέστηκεν οὔτε πάντα ἐκπληροῖ τοὺς ἰδίους τόπους τῶν δωδεκατημορίων· ἀλλ’ ἃ μὲν ἐλλείπει, καθάπερ ὁ Καρκίνος· μικρὸν γὰρ τόπον ἐπέχει τοῦ ἰδίου τόπου· ἃ δὲ ὑπερπίπτει καὶ μέρη τινὰ τῶν προηγουμένων καὶ τῶν ἑπομένων ζῳδίων ἐπιλαμβάνει, καθάπερ ὁ Λέων· (...)

‘But the constellations are not equal in size, nor are they put together from an equal amount of stars, nor do they all fill up their own spaces of the twelfth parts. Rather, some fall short, such as Cancer: for it occupies a small space of its own space; but others extend beyond and lay hold of some part of the preceding and the following zodiac signs, such as Leo; (...)’
